Reviews
We have been going here for our local Japanese food. A great place for a family celebration. The quality is consistently high and there is a play area in the dining area for small kids. The kids meals are great and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The ordering is done via an iPad so you can keep track of what you've ordered. We have been here many many many times!
Had lunch here today.
Order thru touch screen, which is quite up-to-date Japanese.
Seating is less comfortable than expected, still much better than eating Raman standing, as in Tokyo.
Seemingly the renovation only focus on appearance, & disregard practical aspects such as noise & db level. The place may be only 50% full at the most, but quite noisy given as the good spacing. The noise must had been bounced back from very hard surface therefore amplified the volume & heightened the db as well.
What if this place is full?
Could be painful.
Big windows brings in a lot of natural light in ... which is good. Nonetheless half of all the seats are looking directly towards the light. May be I should wear my sunglasses throughout my entire lunch. Or may be dinner would be better.
This place is a bit more expensive comparing to other Japanese places I've been to.
I've ordered the "recommended" Spicy Pork Mince Udon for $21.
The broth is tasty but to my disappointment ... it is not spicy at all.
The portion is small so it was a half filled lunch. Not as bad as I gotta get myself a Big Mac to top up this lunch ... but afternoon tea before dinner is in order.
Would I be back here again?
May be not within the foreseeable future, given as there are so many good choices around Maroubra junction.
I just wanted to give some positive feedback from the dinner my partner and I had tonight (01/12). We came in for our anniversary and all the staff were excellent.
- gave us a complimentary dessert with a happy anniversary message
- cleaned and let us keep a shell from the deluxe sashimi dish (our anniversary memento that we do each year)
- let me charge my phone
- conversational and service with a smile
Thank you for the pleasant experience, Kokoroya is a great restaurant.
Very good place. Every time I pass is always busy, doesn’t matter which day or time. So we had our dinner today. It was teriyaki and grilled beef plus tuna scallops sushi and this is was really amazing 🤩 beef is tender and thin with great combinations of sauces and another food is also delicious. Thank you guys! Well done!
Amazing amazing! This place has very nice ambience, well designed, clean, kind waitresses, and especially yummy food! This place is walking distance from my place. We dine here so very often that maybe the staffs remember us, nearly every weekend. My go to place for casual dining and for special occasion as well! They have lunch special which taste really nice! Staffs are super accommodating and chefs always greeting clients when they come or leave. You have to try their sushi. Will be my all time favourite.
Disappointed overall.
Environment was good but not great
Uni Ikura $25, fair price but very disappointed, the Uni is totally not fresh at all. As a result, not worth the price.
Sesame base creamy soup with spicy pork mince udon $19. It is a recommended item but instant noodle taste better than this.
Udon with Curry sauce topped with Crispy Chicken Katsu and melted cheese $19.50. Ok, my son ate some, I finished the remainder.
Good atmosphere, fresh food, and ingredients are a little pricey, but I wouldn't mind the price point if the services were good too! Overall, it is a good suburban Japanese restaurant.
Service is fast, plenty of vegetarian options - the tofu steak is a must try! As is the tempura eggplant. All our dishes were cooked to perfection.
Our favourite Japanese restaurant in Maroubra.
